What can acupuncture help with?
Acupuncture can provide support, healing and relief from the symptoms of many conditions. The World Health Organisation (WHO) provided the first comprehensive evaluation of the use of acupuncture for over 50 conditions based on a review of extensive clinical research, and indicated that it was a promising therapy, requiring more research, for many more. You can read the WHO Official 2002 report "Acupuncture: Review and Analysis of Reports on Controlled Clinical Trials" as a google book here.
More recently, in April 2017, the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA) published a comparative literature review called the "Acupuncture Evidence project", which found solid scientific support for the use of acupuncture for 117 conditions. This comparative review analysed 136 systematic reviews, pooling data from more than 1000 randomised controlled trials (the gold standard of clinical research). As more research is being conducted all the time, the evidence for acupuncture continues to grow. You can read the project report (in plain English) here, and see a summary of the conditions where positive or potential positive effect was demonstrated below, and more clearly here.
