It was such an incredible thrill to be awarded the Soaring Micro Award earlier this month at the prestigious Altitude Awards. The awards are held annually by the organisation “Women with Altitude”, a group that exists to support, connect and inspire women in business. There were about 300 amazing, inspiring people at the Awards Gala Ball and I was happy to just be there as a finalist – so when Susan Templeman called out my name as the winner in my category, I was temporarily speechless! My award came under the “Soaring Micro” category which was open to micro businesses running for up to four years, and was sponsored by local MP Susan Templeman. Women with Altitude founder and creator of the awards, Andrea Turner-Boys says, “This year we had a field of finalists from across NSW and ACT. These awards are an opportunity to acknowledge individuals from our region who have made outstanding contributions as; business owners, volunteers, employees and creative thinkers, in services, retail and community organisations.” Winners from 16 categories were chosen for their outstanding contribution over a range of genres. As an acupuncturist and Chinese medicine practitioner in Springwood, I entered the awards as an opportunity to reflect on my practice and what progress I have made in my business since restarting my practice here in 2017. I feel proud to be building a business that reflects my personal values of compassion, service, and sustainability, and I infuse these values, with heart, into everything I do. To be acknowledged for the hard work I put into my practice means so much to me. After winning my award and giving my acceptance speech (which was quite nerve-wracking as well as exciting!) I spent the evening celebrating with my fellow finalists, winners and colleagues. It was a wonderful evening, filled with lots of surprises, gratitude challenges, connections and a joyful atmosphere.
