I have created a wonderful new group on Facebook for Blue Mountains locals who are interested in improving their health naturally in a supportive and fun environment.
Each week there will be a different theme, with mini-challenges, tips, recipes and inspiration covering all aspects of our health. The intention is to create a space where we can learn and grow together and cheer each other on! There will be free gifts and exclusive giveaways inside the group. Already there is a 5-day Sugar Detox challenge for members, with a free downloadable success manual and a series of coaching emails to help you quit the sweet stuff! There is an African saying that I have always loved: "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together". If you are a local and would love to join us for the ride, you can do so here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2194244707548769/

It’s a stressful time right now with bushfires burning out of control over much of NSW, and surrounding the Blue Mountains and Sydney. On top of making your fire plan and being prepared, it is important to look after your your lung health, as well as your mental wellbeing.
The air quality in Sydney and the Blue Mountains has been hazardous for some time now with a lot of bushfire smoke in the air. It is the finer, microscopic particles in the smoke that cause the most concern, as they can get deep into the lungs and cause adverse health effects if not cleared effectively. Read on for some tips on how to protect your lungs, and how to help your body detoxify from this pollution as efficiently as possible. In my latest Facebook Live video, I discuss how acupuncture may play a role in helping pregnant women prepare for their upcoming birth.
I am always striving to refine and improve my services, so that I can be the best practitioner that I can be. To this end I conduct yearly anonymous surveys, so that I can give my patients the chance to give me honest feedback that I can use to learn and grow.
I am always so grateful for everyone who takes the time to complete the survey and tell me what they think. This year I thought it might be nice to publish the results so that you can see them too. You can see a quick summary here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/stories/SM-ZWCFP2F7/, or keep reading for a bit more detail and commentary, including how my results compare to other professionals in the health industry worldwide. I was absolutely thrilled and incredibly humbled to receive the award of “Practitioner of the Year” at last Saturdays’ Australian Traditional Medicine Society (ATMS) Natural Medicine Awards 2019.
These awards were instigated in 2016 as a way to recognise the outstanding achivements of natural therapists demonstrating excellence in their field, as well as making significant contributions to the natural medicine profession. ATMS is Australia’s natural leading natural medicine association, who have stated that ‘the calibre and volume of entries was impressive’, which makes me feel incredibly proud and privileged to be the recipient of this prestigious award. We are having an Open Day at my beautiful clinic, the Quan Yin Healing Centre in Springwood, and you are invited! If you have been interested in my work for some time, but haven't had a chance to meet me yet, this is a great opportunity to do so. It is also a fantastic opportunity to meet the other amazing women that I work with, who offer a range of incredible wholistic health services, ranging from remedial & pregnancy massage, to hypnotherapy, bowen therapy, reflexology, kinesiology, and clinical nutrition.
We have pulled out all the stops and there will be amazing goodie bags with free gifts from each of the five practitioners; fantastic lucky door prizes; inspiring mini-workshops; delicious healthy food and drinks, and live music! Please share this with anyone you think might find this event informative and fun, and I do hope to see you there. I am proud to share the wonderful news that I have finished my year long qualification as an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.
I can honestly say it was an amazing year and learned so much that will complement my current practice, and it has also made a huge difference to my own personal levels of health, happiness and wellbeing. For more information about why I chose to add health coaching to my repertoire, see my earlier blog post here. I am so excited to combine health coaching with acupuncture in a more concrete way, and have lots of wonderful ideas for the future, so watch this space! How do you start your day...do you literally jump out of bed and plunge into your daily activities, or do you take time to gradually wake up, stretch and ease the transition between sleep and wakefulness?
You might feel victorious if you can jump straight into your daily routine, but did you know this can place a great deal of pressure on your body systems and create a strain on weak artery walls? For instance, strokes and heart attacks occur most commonly in the early morning, partly due to the sudden and dramatic changes in heart rate, blood pressure and temperature in this transition phase. Take some time to develop a gentle morning routine to start your day in a great way, incorporating stretches, self massage and soft music.
